How this site uses Google Analytics, what happens to entries in the voice field log and how to opt out. Last updated November 5, 2026.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics, a service provided by Google, to count visits to this site. Every page loads it. When a page loads, your browser sends Google:
- the address and title of the page, and the page that linked you to it;
- your browser, device, operating system, screen size and language;
- your IP address, which Google uses to work out your approximate location and to filter out spam. Google says it never links the raw IP address to your identifier and discards it after use, and that for visitors in the EU, Switzerland and the UK it does not log or store IP addresses (Google's explanation);
- a random identifier kept in a cookie;
- possibly how you use the page, such as scrolling or clicking a link to another site.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets two cookies. _ga holds the random identifier that tells one visitor from another. _ga_<ID> keeps the state of your current visit. Google sets them to expire after 2 years by default, but Chrome and some other browsers keep a cookie for at most 400 days. The site's own code does not write cookies.
How long the data is kept
- We set Google Analytics to keep event-level and user-level data for 14 months.
- If you come back, the 14 months for your user-level data start again from your last visit.
- This setting does not affect the totals in standard reports.
What we use it for
Only to see how many people visit and which pages are useful. We do not use it for advertising. Google signals is not turned on, and our Google Analytics is not linked to Google Ads.
Google may process this data in the United States and other countries. Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
How to opt out
This site has no cookie banner. To stop Google Analytics from collecting your visits:
- install Google's Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on (Google lists it for Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Microsoft Edge);
- or use a content blocker that blocks the Google Analytics script.
Blocking cookies alone is not enough. It only stops Google from recognizing you when you come back, and data about your visits may still be sent.
The voice field log
Entries you save in the voice field log are kept in your browser on your device. We never receive them. The log never puts what you say or type into the page address or the page title, and the site does not send it to Google Analytics. Google Analytics may record that you started filling in or saved the log form, with details about the form itself such as its ID and button text, but not what you said or typed.
Voice input uses your browser's own speech service, so the audio may be sent to the browser maker, such as Google in Chrome or Apple in Safari. Type instead if you would rather keep it private.
Hosting
Cloudflare serves this site. Like any web host, it handles your IP address, the address of the page and your browser details to deliver each page.
